To commemorate the centenary of the Battle of the Somme, Newbridge Memo will be holding an event on Saturday 15th October to play tribute to those who served and fell in the battle.
The event will involve a screening of the UNESCO listed ‘The Battle of the Somme Film’- the 1916 documentary film that shook the world. This unique film from the Imperial War Museums collection was the first feature length documentary about war and changed the way both cinema and film were perceived by the public. In the year of its release around 20 million people (almost half the population of Britain at the time), watched the film with many hoping to see a loved one or friend captured on film. One hundred years later, we are honoured to be working with the Imperial War Museum and First World War Partnership to screen the candid documentary on the anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.
The screening will be accompanied by dedicatory performances including singing, poetry recitals, music from Celynen Silver Band and a Battle of the Somme display.
Attendance of the event is free, though booking is essential.
Doors open: 6.00pm | Event starts: 7pm.
Tickets are available online at www.newbridgememo.co.uk, through our Box Office (01495 243252), Sainsbury’s Pontllanfraith and Newbridge Trading.
