Bauhaus Family Session: Making Sense of Mock Results

Bauhaus Family Session: Making Sense of Mock Results

By Bauhaus Education

Overview

Free parent workshop: understand mock results, support your teen effectively & reduce exam stress. Expert advice + Q&A. Northampton, 31 Jan

The mock results are in. Your child is stressed, overwhelmed, or maybe just switched off. You want to help, but you're not sure what to say or do without making things worse.

Join Tutu Alaka, CEO of Bauhaus Education, for a practical afternoon designed to give you the tools, understanding, and confidence to support your child through mock exam season and beyond.

This isn't about turning you into a teacher. It's about helping you become the kind of support your child actually needs right now.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

  • How to talk about mock results without adding pressure or causing arguments
  • What target grades actually mean — and why they're not limits
  • The science behind effective revision (and why cramming doesn't work)
  • How to spot the difference between normal stress and something more serious
  • Practical ways to create a home environment that helps, not hinders
  • When to step in and when to step back

WHAT'S INCLUDED

30 Minute Keynote with Tutu Alaka Drawing on over 20 years of turning around underachieving students, Tutu will share the evidence-based approaches that actually work — explained in plain English, no jargon.

Live Q&A Session Bring your specific questions and concerns. This is your chance to get straight answers from someone who's seen it all.

One-to-One Conversations with Bauhaus Tutors Hang around after the main session for informal chats with our expert tutors. Ask about your child's specific situation, get advice tailored to your family, or just talk things through with someone who gets it.

Refreshments Throughout Because parenting is exhausting and you deserve a cup of tea!

WHO THIS IS FOR

This afternoon session is ideal for parents, carers, and family members of students in Years 10-13 who:

  • Have just received mock exam results and aren't sure what to do next
  • Are watching their child struggle with exam pressure and want to help
  • Feel like they're walking on eggshells around revision and grades
  • Want practical strategies, not just reassurance
  • Are considering extra support but want to understand their options first

This session is also open to families with younger students (Years 7-9) who want to get prepared now and understand what's ahead, so you're ready to support your child when exam pressure arrives.

You don't need to know anything about teaching or education to attend. You just need to care about your child's wellbeing and want to support them effectively.

ABOUT YOUR SPEAKER

Tutu Alaka is CEO of Bauhaus Education and has over 20 years of experience helping students who've switched off from learning discover what they're capable of achieving.

Her teaching approach is grounded in cognitive science and retrieval practice — the evidence-based methods that actually help information stick. She's worked as Associate Assistant Head and Head of Careers at Thomas Beckett School in Northampton and has dedicated her career to supporting young people from all backgrounds reach their full potential.

"What keeps me in teaching is starting with children who are disengaged, who don't want to be there, and by the end of the year you're the person they trust, they're full of ambition — seeing that change is my passion."
