Event description

Description

Join us for an insightful talk on the Bauhaus, a revolutionary school of art that was founded in Weimar 100 years ago. Renowned architectural historian and author Alan Powers and internationally acclaimed graphic designer Sascha Lobe will explore its diverse legacy, celebrating the centenary of this short lived yet influential institution.

From architecture to textiles, graphic design and color theory, the Bauhaus movement lives on.

Speakers

Alan Powers is a widely published author on twentieth-century art and design. He teaches at the New York University in London, the London School of Architecture, and the University of Kent. Alan is the author of the recently published Bauhaus Goes West which tells the story of the Bauhaus émigrés in the years following the school’s closure in 1933 and the countries to which they moved, focusing in particular on Britain.

Sascha Lobe is a graphic designer working at the intersection of architecture and graphic design. In 2018 he joined Pentagram as a partner. Sacha's clients have included Mercedes Benz, Vitra, Adidas, Hugo Boss and Kunstmuseum Stuttgart. He also created the celebrated identity for the Bauhaus-Archiv Museum, and has collaborated with architects, such as Daniel Libeskind and David Chipperfield.

The talk will be followed by a panel discussion for audience members to ask questions.
