The two-day Bauhaus of the Seas Sails public event will take place on 1 and 2 February 2023 in Lisbon, Portugal and will be hosted by Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), the Municipality of Lisbon (CML) and Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the local partners of the project. The aim of the event is to kick-off the Bauhaus of the Seas Sails project among the consortium members and showcase what it is about to the local and international audience interested in the topic.

Taking place in Factory in Hub Criativo do Beato, the first day will launch the initative with an institutional welcoming by local hosts and an artistic performance. The afternoon will see local context showcases in a form of short interactive presentations.

The second day at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation will introduce the concept of “drops” – concrete activities and experiments within the project which will engage local communities on a sustainable, fair and appealing transition.

The Bauhaus of the Seas, as «marhaus» (literally «the sea as our home») or «baumar» («the sea as a space for creation and impact entrepreneurship»), aims to promote renewed ethical and aesthetic regenerative development from a widely diverse range of dimensions of our continued relationship with the sea. Conceived as a journey with Portugal as a starting point, the Bauhaus of the Seas will generate a design movement that will extend to all coastal and maritime regions in Europe.

The Bauhaus of the Seas Sails project will demonstrate and archive solutions for climate neutrality with a particular focus on coastal cities as an interface to healthy seas, ocean and water bodies envisioning a triangle of sustainability, inclusion and design focused on the most important global natural space.
