BBC Connected Studio: Research and Education Space
Thursday, 4 September 2014 from 17:30 to 20:00 (BST)
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
BBC Connected Studio are offering an exciting opportunity for developers, digital agencies and startups to help build prototypes for the Research and Education Space platform, which is being developed by the BBC in partnership with Jisc and the British Universities' Film and Video Council (BUFVC)
Your challenge is to create online experiences that will inspire learners, teachers and researchers in using applications built on the RES platform. You can find out more about the platform in our online guide, Inside Acropolis.
We want to work collaboratively with developers to present data and digital media from galleries, libraries, archives and museums in a standard and consistent way, using open standards. We want to significantly improve the education and research experience using data and digital media from such collections by encouraging developers to build new products and services.
Developers are invited to create proposals for innovative prototypes which can inspire learning, teaching and research in schools, colleges and universities. This can be either domain-specific or across the whole RES index. Prototypes will need to consider the mechanisms by which users can navigate through a broad range of data and digital media, with a range of differing licensing terms and conditions and differing access and identity routes.
BBC Connected Studio is known for bringing independent producers and the different areas of the BBC together in a fun, collaborative and open way. This event is an opportunity for you to ask questions of the BBC Archive Development and Connected Studio Teams ahead of the Development Studio and to gain a better understanding of what would be asked of teams going forward. It is also a chance for those who aren't familiar with Connected Studio to find out more information about the process.
