In 2015, Black Cultural Archives were donated a fascinating archive collection by the Smith family, after the sudden passing of Andrew Oxolando Efuntola Smith. The collection includes an impressive selection of visual and audio material of Black art performances and printed documents from the Pan Afrikan Society Community Forum.

“Brother Oxalando” as he was known in the wider community, was a distinguished musician and drummer with the Afrobloc group, whose name derived from the Brazilian Carnival movement in Bahia and London School of Samba. A man of many talents, Brother Oxalando performed all over London in the 1980s with the 10 percent dance group. He was also a Priest and the Director of Communications and an active contributor to the Pan Afrikan Society Community Forum (PASCF).

Learn more about his contribution to the Black music and dance movement and his Pan Afrikan ideals, as we commemorate his life on the third year of his passing. This day will include a performance of the sacred tradition of libations, cultural drumming, and a symposium of personal testimonies from close friends and loved ones. The commemoration will also recall the lives of Ras Lloyd Johnson and Sister Mawasi Bojang, respectively the late first and second Chairs of the PASCF and the launch of two PASCF books on Pan-Afrikanism in their honour.

Please come and celebrate the life of Andrew Oxolando Efuntola Smith on the third anniversary of his passing.
