Event description

Description

This National Summer School workshops invites participants to work with BCB Resident Artists and leading UK Artist and winner of the Korean Ceramics Biennial Jury Prize Neil Brownsword (UK) and acclaimed Korean Artist Juree Kim (KR) currently exhibiting in the V&A.

Kim and Brownsword will each deliver a practical workshop, a seminar and a gallery talk which will offer the public insights into their practice and their creative process.

In his practical workshop Brownsword will explore ideas surrounding the mould as one of the key technologies that revolutionised ceramic industrialisation. Yet this will examine the potentials of unconventional forming, using materials which embrace the unpredictable rather than the traditions of uniform repetition.

Kim's workshop will engage visitors in the process of making and 'unmaking. Observations from various historical objects with an architectural focus or embellishment will be crafted and then subjected to numerous destructive processes. The workshop aims to introduce participants to the transient properties of unfired clay and unpredictability as a creative force.
