Description

The refugee crisis across Europe is creating an unprecedented number of vulnerable Muslim children, the numbers continue to grow dramatically. Many of these children will likely come from a Muslim background. While efforts are made to place these children within their faith and cultural tradition, this is proving difficult.

Every 20 minutes another child enters the care system in need of a foster family. These children are of all ages, backgrounds and communities. The majority have experienced abuse or neglect. Children from a Muslim background may experience greater difficulty in their placements. This is primarily due to the nature of the events that have led them coming into care, but also the difficulties in settling within foster families outside of their faith and cultural norms. This can have a major impact on the ability of the child to settle and more fundamentally their identity at one of the most vulnerable stages in their life.

BCBN has identified two key organisations, the UK’s leading fostering charity, The Fostering Network, and a leading partner from the Muslim community for education and engagement, Mercy Mission UK to help deliver the newly founded ‘Muslim Fostering Project’.

Foster families give children the love, support and stability that they so desperately need. This is often their first positive experience of family life. Foster carers have a unique opportunity to make a real difference, supporting children to overcome the challenges of their early lives and helping them to develop and achieve their true potential.

Join us at BCBN’s annual gala dinner in support of the Muslim Fostering Project and the BCBN Grant Initiative. The event will also be a fantastic networking opportunity to meet over 500 business leaders and heads of charities from across the community as well as an opportunity to support one of the most compelling charitable causes of our time. As always, BCBN relies on the generosity of our Partners, our Sponsors and our Community. We need your continuing support to begin to address this very difficult social issue.
