Event description
By the students, for the students. BCU's 3rd Student-led law conference aims to inspire and entertain! Twitter: @BCU_Our_Impact

About this Event

Birmingham City University is proud to present our third annual School of Law Student Conference. This year, we would like to demonstrate the amazing work our students do, and highlight the impact they are making in their lives and communities. We hope to inspire, invigorate, and entertain by allowing the students to take the floor and talk about how the law is changing the world we live in.

This is a free event (being sponsored by the School, Faculty and University). Lunch and refreshments will be provided. All students are invited to attend and/or present at this conference, which will take place on the 4th March 2020 between 9:30-5:00pm.

The theme of the conference is 'Our Impact.' There are many ways in which the work we do can have an impact on someone or something, and we are looking for students to come and speak about their work and experiences. We are also interested to hear about legal research topics which are interesting to you, and areas of law which are new and developing, such as:

  • The changing landscape of Human Rights Law
  • Environmental Law and its impact on climate change
  • The impact of Brexit and the legal issues we could face
  • What advances in Artificial Intelligence means for lawyers of the future
  • The importance of mental health care in the criminal justice system

We would love to hear about any ideas you may have, and we will be accepting applications to present from all BCU Law students (LLB, LLM, LPC, GDL and PhD). Students can either apply to present a PowerPoint presentation, or put together a poster which will be displayed at the event.

Applications can be submitted by individuals, or small groups and can be requested from BCULawConference@Gmail.com. The deadline for submitting applications is no later than 5pm on the 10th of February 2020.

There will be a collection of prizes that will be presented to the best presentation, poster, and all presenters will receive a certificate. We will release more information of the specific of the prizes once they are finalised.

You will be fully supported in the process, as we will also be offering guidance at workshop sessions on the 5th and 19th of February to help students make their presentations the best they can be! For more information on the workshops, contact BCULawConference@Gmail.com or follow us on Twitter: @BCU_Our_Impact.

We hope to see you all there!
