BCU Type Talks: Professor Ian McLaren: What Designers Do

About this Event

Ian McClaren was born Edinburgh 1940 and trained in London and Ulm. He has worked in 25 countries. One of Otl Aicher’s four deputies during the Munich Olympiad. Partnership with Claude Braunstein, Paris working on a variety of public sector and transport related projects. Consultant and design manager PA Management Consultants. Research for the European Commission, BT, and the BBC on interactive media.

Designed the user interface for the first paperless national telephone directory (‘Minitél’) for French Post Office. At UNESCO’s request researched and developed minimal cost printing and duplicating systems for use in rural sub-Saharan Africa. Other R&D projects for international organisations include the European Commission, ISO, and Indian Ocean Commission.

Professorships and guest professorships in England, Scotland and Wales. Work in public collections in Britain, Germany, Poland, Switzerland, and USA.
