Our next quarterly Members Forum is being held in West Bristol at the Boston Tea Party, Whiteladies Road, Clifton. A forum is a meeting where ideas and views on a particular issue can be talked about.
This is our third Members Forum of the year and it is the next step in holding our sessions across all parts of Bristol, after our start in South Bristol in March.
We will be talking about … Disability and Employment!
Given all the political attacks that have been happening on Disabled people this year (notably the PIP and Universal Credit Bill), all of which have been justified in the governments eyes in order to 'get Disabled people back into work', we thought it was very timely to have a Disabled people led discussion on this topic as our voices have been left out of the conversation so far. The meeting will be led by our trustees Helen and Devon.
The plan for the forum will be:
1. Introductions and BDEF updates
2. A look at the current landscape of Disability and employment
3. A brief introduction to the rights of Disabled people in the workplace
4. Group discussions about members workplace experiences, focusing on figuring out what our members want employers in Bristol to know when hiring Disabled people to work in their organisations.
5. Draft of open letter to employers in Bristol from BDEF members.
This meeting is open to all BDEF (Bristol Disability Equality Forum) CIO* members and, as ever, we can't wait to see you there!
If you aren’t yet a member but would like to get involved, join us as a member here. Then we would love to see you in September at Boston Tea Party.
This is a chance to connect with fellow members, share insights and ideas, hear about BDEF news and be part of shaping the future of our community.
