Event Details


In year 2018 they are countries successfully went deep in BIM on-site application and trace rebar transportation with RFID. This year 2018, Level 3 BIM – Full BIM Application is nothing new for all construction industry players. BIMQS plays a crucial role in BIM application, and the professionalism driven the cycle towards professional, productive, effective, and efficiency.

Together with RICS, Building Smart and BIM Institute; Glodon Malaysia will be organizing the first ever “Malaysia BIM Contest 2018”. This contest is open to all public from construction professionals QS or architect or engineers background and also for university students who are interested in BIM development as a future career path. The objective of the contest is to showcase the features and productivity of today’s BIM application.

Together we will drive the digital construction BIM into the next level of changes and let's make today's BIM construction future productive for a better future construction industry. We welcome and encourage all participants to take up this challenge, be inspire and be creative in modelling the structure by joining the competition, you will be in line to gain a lot of benefits which includes:       

  • New Knowledge: Modelling/Quantity takeoff Software operations, Coordination methods practised in BIM environments in the industry.
  • Recognition: Show your skills and efficiency in operating in a BIM environment and grab the chance to be awarded for your excellent performance.
  • Networking: Increase your connections in the industry by meeting other industry professionals during the competition.
  • Bright Career Pathway: Student experiencing the knowledge skill of adapting Cubicost software applicable in later career Industry Company which uses Cubicost software already. 


 Malaysia BIM contest will be divided into 2 categories :

1st categories University level : 

Each university are limited to 3 teams which consist of group of 4 students with 1 supervisor 

Contest process:

  • 10 Marks awarded per group for attending basic training & Practice session

  • 10 Marks awarded for submitting project

  • 80 Marks will be judge from the quality of takeoff model

  • Group with highest score will qualify for the final stage

  • Team will be judge based on the quality of their takeoff model 

  • Final contest will take place on the 15th August 2018 * (Venue is subject to change)

  1st place: RM 5,000 cash + Certificate

  2nd place: RM 3,000 cash+ Certificate  

  3rd place: RM 1,000 cash + Certificate

2nd Categories Construction Professional level:

Each company can only form 2 groups which consist of 2 participants from (QS / Architect/ Engineers) and each team must have a QS team member.  

Contest process : 

  • Basic Training session and practice session will be provided before the competition.

  • Each team member must submit their respective projects to qualifiy to the final stage 

  • Team will be judge based on the quality of their takeoff model  

  • Final contest will take place on the 16th August 2018 at * (Venue is subject to change)

 1st Place : 2 years Cubicost License
RM 10,000   Cash + Certificate

2nd Place: 1 year Cubicost License

 3rd Place:  1 year Cubicost License 
RM 3,000 Cash + Certificate 
*Cubicost Software valued at RM 19,400

 Terms and Provisions


 The Malaysia BIM Contest 2018("Contest") is organised by Glodon Malaysia, BuildingSMART Malaysia, RICS, and BIM Institute of Malaysia ("Organizer") located at Glodon Malaysia Training Centre,Unit 31,Level 6, Jaya One, 72A, Jalan University, 46200 Petaling Jaya, Selangor. The Contest will be held on 15 August 2018 (for university participants) and 16 August 2018 (for industrial professionals). By participating in the Contest, each participating team (“Team”) unconditionally accepts and agrees to comply with and abide by these Terms and Conditions and the decisions of the Organizers, which shall be final in all respects.


1.   The Contest

1.1     The Contest aims to identify the Building Information Modelling (“BIM”) application for Quantity Surveying (“QS”) profession in Malaysia construction industry.
1.2.     Promoting effectiveness and efficiency with inventive technology application in the industry. Modelling the recommended practices and lead the industry with innovative change towards greater BIM implementation.

2.   Registration & Participation

 2.1  Registration officially started on the 2 May 2018. All Participating teams shall start to register their participation and upon confirmation of registration will be notified through email. Only the registered team members who have completed the Contest will receive the certificates of participation.
2.2  Each university is limited to three (3) teams which consist of four (4) student and one (1) supervisor.
2.3  Each company can only form two (2) groups which consist of two (2) participants (QS/Architect/Engineer) and each team must have one (1) QS member.
2.4 The definitive cut-off date for replacement of registered Team members shall be three weeks before the date of the actual competition. The Team is required to write to the Organiser for such a request and to submit the new name list.
2.5  Each Team is required to attend trainings provided by Glodon Malaysia. For university participants, the Team should attend the training and practicing sessions at Glodon Malaysia Training Centre to gain ten (10) percent of Contest participation marks. Where industry professionals may attend or who attended trainings will be eligible to participate the Contest.
2.6.  Each Team Leader should refer to the Google Form link below and register for trainings In reference to training schedule attached in the registration form, participating Teams to choose which session of “TAS & TRB” and “TBQ” training for registration. Training registration confirmation will be notified through email. Glodon Malaysia Service Team reserves all right to cancel or postpone any training sessions.
2.7.  The participating Teams are encouraged to practice project modelling at Glodon Training Centre upon request with Glodon Malaysia Service Team. Practicing sessions would held at Glodon Training Centre during the other training days stipulated in the training schedule provided.  Glodon Malaysia Service Team reserves all right to cancel or postpone any practicing sessions.
2.8.   Each Team should submit the practicing project model or any projects model for the prequalification to final (“Prequalification”). Organisers will evaluate the submitted projects with Prequalification judgement criterions stated below. For university participants, the submitted project will be evaluated and marks will be given for the other ten (10) percent of Contest participation marks. For industry professionals, the submitted project will be evaluated and identify qualification for the final.
2.9   The Organiser reserves the right to reject any Participant who does not meet the eligibility criteria.
2.10  The Organiser reserves the right to perform verifications by any means it finds necessary of the identity and details of the participating Teams.
2.11  The Organiser reserves the right to cancel and/or modify the terms and conditions, at any time, during the competition.
