Who Should Attend

This course is suitable for beginners, as well as those wishing to refresh their mindfulness practice. It is suitable for those of all faiths and none. Our course participants come from a wide range of backgrounds. Many of our participants are keen to learn new ways to look after their own well being and to identify positive responses to
challenging situations.

Proposed Commitment

For this course to be effective, we recommended that you commit to attending all six sessions and also do a minimum of 20mins daily practice for five days each week. Creating a stable and strong practice of mindfulness is a habit that needs regular, ideally daily, practice.

Course Schedule

This course is taught over 6 weeks from Wednesday 24 January to Wednesday 28 February. Each class is 2 hours long and the class timings are 10.30-12.30. Attendees are welcome to stay for half an hour afterwards for a drink and chat if they wish. We recommend that you aim to arrive 10 minutes before each class is due to start (i.e. by 10.20am).

Course Leader

The course leaders are Sharon Leighton and Jen Smith.

Sharon Leighton, DHSc

I started practising mindfulness in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh in 2009 at a time of deep suffering. Whilst there continue to be many challenges, Thay’s teachings help me to transform my suffering and to live my life with wisdom, compassion and joy. I received the Fourteen Mindfulness Trainings from Thich Nhat Hanh in 2012 and was given the Dharma name "True Flower of Faith.”

Jen Smith, PhD

Since practicing mindfulness in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh, the teachings have deepened and calmed my life and enabled me to touch the joy in the everyday. I received the Five Mindfulness Trainings in 2015 and was given the Dharma name ‘Accepting Stillness of the Heart.' Through attending Community of Interbeing retreats at Woodbrooke, the Quaker study centre, I became increasingly drawn to Quakerism and now find nourishment in both traditions.
