About this event

BE CLOSER SESSIONS AT WATERCRESS FARM

Aimed at a smaller group of up to 12 children/young people, identified by you, who would particularly benefit from spending time connecting with nature, once a term.

BOOKING DETAILS

Please book 6 visits for your class/classes as follows.

  • One visit in Term 1
  • One visit in Term 2
  • One visit in Term 3
  • One visit in Term 4
  • One visit in Term 5
  • One visit in Term 6

We have very limited availability and these sessions are only available to a few settings each year. If a school fails to book all six visits or if they cancel more than once, their place may be offered to another setting.

By visiting six times over the school year, your group will experience an immersive experience designed to enhance your student's connection to themselves, each other and nature: building confidence, self-esteem and a sense of wellbeing, as a part of nature.

ABOUT SESSIONS

Our BE Closer programme is an immersive nature experience designed for school nurture groups, charities and community organisations. By joining us more frequently, people have the opportunity to connect with nature, develop confidence, and build a strong sense of wellbeing.

"If we want children to flourish, to become truly empowered, then let us allow them to love the earth before we ask them to save it.”

David Sobel

"The students had an amazing time. They've come into school today tired out and buzzing about the day; laughing about their memories and asking when they can come back.

You were so understanding and patient with them and I really liked the combination of education about nature, and introductions to topics such as sharing and mindfulness.’ Broadoak Secondary School

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to book all 6 visits at once?

Yes, all 6 sessions (1 a term) must all be booked together. If you do not book all six of your visits at the same time then your booking will be cancelled. Please honour your bookings as last minute cancellations prevent other children from visiting in your place.

Where do the sessions take place?

All sessions take place at our rewilding project, Watercress Farm. The address is Watercress Farm, Bristol Road, Wraxall, BS48 1NE.

How do we get to Watercress Farm?

Watercress Farm can be accessed from Bristol Road. The postcode is BS48 1NE and this will take you to the top of the lane. You must follow the lane to the carpark which is signposted. The what3words location is: ///lives.occurs.finely.

How much does it cost?

Visits to our programme are completely FREE OF CHARGE. We believe in removing barriers to nature connection therefore, your experience is funded by Belmont. We cover the experience from staff to snacks, we just ask that you organise travel to and from the site for the group.

Is this a forest school experience?

No. Research shows that connecting to nature happens best through play and self-led discovery. So, we base our sessions on this rather than planned activities like forest school.

Are there toilets?

Yes. We have toilets in our nature connection barn which is a 5 minute walk from our woodland base. We also have fresh drinking water and handwashing facilities at our woodland base.

What if it rains or is very windy?

We love being in nature in all weathers so we make it part of the fun. We advise to check weather in advance and dress appropriately. On very rare occasions, we may have to cancel a session if there are storms or very strong winds.

Do you provide risk assessments?

Yes, we have comprehensive risk assessments and a robust risk assessment policy which will be provided upon request, after booking. We recommend that you also complete your own risk assessment prior to your first visit and we are always happy to arrange a visit to accommodate this.

Do you accommodate children/ young people with SEND and, or SEMH needs?

Yes, we aim to remove barriers to nature connection and as such, strive to be as inclusive as possible. However, our site is not entirely accessible so to ensure that our sessions can meet your groups' needs, please contact nature.connection@belmont.estate before booking.

How many supervising adults should we bring?

While we appreciate you may have many willing parent helpers that would like to come along, please only bring enough adults with you to cover your ratio requirements. Belmont staff are not included in your ratio.

NATURE-BASED CONNECTION PROGRAMME

In a world in which we are increasingly distant, Belmont is about being closer.

Closer to nature, closer to one another, closer to the things that matter.

Our mission is to bring about environmental and ecological restoration on a local and national scale. We’re building connections with the wider community, local schools, and colleges to provide inspirational opportunities to get closer to nature, creating truly accessible educational resources and programmes for those who would not otherwise have the opportunity to do so.

To learn more about our nature-based education programme, visit our website or watch our mission video.
