We all know how important GDPR is. However, there's no need to lose any sleep over it. You have from now until May 2018 to get your data ducks in a row, and Culture Republic can help. Due to popular demand, we are bringing our practical GDPR workshop for arts and cultural organisations to Dundee on Monday 19th February 2018 in partnership with the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office). You'll have the opportunity to ask, share and get clear instructions on what your next data protection moves should be.

Who should attend?

Data protection affects us all. If you get left behind you could get heavily fined. Don’t leave it to chance and miss out. Whether you sell tickets or not, it’s likely you gather and hold information about your audiences, participants, board members, staff members and more.

Can you confidently say you have this in order? If the answer is no, we’ll see you in Dundee at our workshop on Monday 19th February 2018.

Why is this so important?

Your organisation needs to be prepared so you can confidently and compliantly understand who your audiences are, who they could be and how to reach them. You may think that you have everything covered, but what if you have missed something crucial? There’s no way of truly knowing without committing yourself to getting your data in order.

What you will learn?

The objective from the event is that you’ll be able to move from the theory to the practical steps you need to take to tackle all aspects of GDPR head on. At this event you will:

  • Work on real life GDPR scenarios from arts and cultural organisations and unlock the answers to the questions that are causing concern.
  • Take part in practical exercises to ensure your privacy notices are compliant and alleviate your fears surrounding consent.
  • Get informal pre-event homework to test your GDPR practice to highlight the areas where there is room for improvement. You’ll also get a bag filled with rich and informative resources and guidance to steer you through all the steps to becoming GDPR ready.

We take your data seriously

Continuing to work in connection with the ICO to get you GDPR ready is only the beginning. There should be no stone left unturned to ensure your data is sound, sealed and ready to work most effectively for you. GDPR will help you to step up the ladder on your journey to understanding who your audiences are, could be and how to reach them. Culture Republic will be there every step of the way.

Agenda

Registration with teas and coffees begins at 10.15am and the workshop will start promptly at 10.30am.

The workshop ends at 1.15pm, followed by a networking lunch until session ends at 2.00pm.

Meet The Trainer

Alison Johnston, Lead Policy Officer – Scotland Information Commissioner’s Office

Alison joined the ICO’s Scotland Office at the end of January 2017, in the new role of Lead Policy Officer. Alison supports the team in delivering awareness raising events, representing the ICO at sector-based forums, completing advisory visits and providing advice and guidance to stakeholders and the public.

Prior to joining the ICO, Alison worked for the Scottish Prison Service where a development opportunity introduced her to the world of information governance. While with SPS, Alison had responsibility for her establishment’s local Freedom of Information (Scotland) process, complaints process, subject access requests and records management so she comes to the ICO with a good working knowledge from the practitioner’s perspective.

About the Information Commissioner’s Office
The Information Commissioner’s Office is the UK’s independent regulatory body for data protection. Its office in Edinburgh provides a local point of contact for members of the public and organisations based in Scotland. As well as operating an advice service to address general enquiries, it promotes good practice in data protection by raising awareness of organisational responsibilities across all sectors. It also influences policy in related areas, by working closely with the departments of the Scottish government and the wider public sector.
