Event description
Turning the Spotlight on the effects of loneliness and isolation among young people

About this Event

Our Be The Boss project, which provided 20 young people with the opportunity to take part in a project that turns the spotlight on the issues of loneliness and isolation amongst young people, concludes with this end of project live showcase event. Young people took part in a series of workshops and collaborated with artists/performers who have then turned stories into emotive music, drama and dance performances.

The challenge was for young people to complete the tasks associated with hosting a live event, as well as capture stories that would provide a live audience with an insight into the issues associated with loneliness and isolation through their eyes.We worked with young people who are not in education, employment and training providing them with an opportunity to develop soft skills including leadership and management skills, team building and communication, with the overall aim of helping them on their journey towards employment.

This is your opportunity to experience the showcase event they helped to produce!

Who should attend: This is a fantastic opportunity for organisations and staff teams that work with and or support young people throughout the city who are not in education, employment and training, their students, the general public and artists and performers, to experience this showcase event which the young people worked hard to bring to fruition.

ICONIC - MENTAL HEALTH AND WELL-BEING PROJECT

A PERFORMING ARTS PROJECT THAT TURNS THE SPOTLIGHT ON THE ISSUE OF LONELINESS AND ISOLATION AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE!

Social enterprise, Iconic, brings together a creative mix of stories, gathered and developed in workshops over a four month period, which will be brought to life on stage and told through music, dance and drama. This amazing showcase event will be held on 7th October 2019 at The Attenborough Arts Centre from 2.30pm – 4.30pm.

Young people from Trans4m, Twenty Twenty and Leicester City Council have attended workshops over four months to discuss and explore the issues around loneliness and isolation.

With thanks to The National Lottery Community Fund, individuals have worked with qualified facilitator’s to identify the narrative they wanted to showcase. Then, with the help of an experienced artists or performers, members of the group have turned their stories into a performance piece and received the support of Iconic to enable them to perform during the event if they wish to.

Event on 7th October 2019.

Students Story

Jamie, who took part in the project, has written his own song lyrics and will be sharing them with the audience during the event; “Why, oh why, does this happen to me? Fly away, to a world, far away from here, the world’s revolving but I feel the same”, a powerful line taken from Jamie’s lyrics.

Iconic has been providing services since 2012 and is now growing its network of artists, performers, venues and delivery partners. Its focus is on social purpose, health and well-being, employability and community engagement.
