BE WILD SESSIONS AT WATERCRESS FARM

Set within our rewilding project at Watercress Farm, our free nature connection programme offers people of all ages a unique insight into the natural world.

Our BE Wild sessions (for classes of up to 30) offer three visits over the school year for children to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of nature in a way that fosters curiosity and builds a strong sense of belonging. Through this understanding, children will learn to protect nature.

Our recommeded age is Yr 3- Yr 10 however we accept bookings for all ages. Please contact us ( nature.connection@belmont.estate) before booking if you would like to bring more than one class/day.

BOOKING DETAILS

Please book 3 visits for your class/classes as follows.

  • One visit in Term 1 or Term 2
  • One visit in Term 3 or Term 4
  • One visit in Term 5 or Term 6

We have a limited number of schools that we can offer this experience to. If you do not book your 3 visits together, then your single booking may be cancelled.

ABOUT SESSIONS

Unlike traditional education, our programme focuses on connection with nature, through the unrestrained joy of self-discovery and collaboration through play. We encourage children to let their imaginations run wild as they explore and learn whatever they need to in that moment.

The visit begins with a wild walk, exploring our land ,free range animals and wildlife. After lunch around the fireside, children are free to explore our riverside woodland and stream.

“If we want children to flourish, to become truly empowered, then let us allow them to love the earth before we ask them to save it.” - David Sobel

“The children were so happy and fully immersed themselves into the experience. It was magical to watch them have the chance to be totally free in nature.” – Milton Park

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to book all 3 visits at once?

Yes, BE Wild sessions are for 3 visits so they must all be booked together. Please honour your bookings as last minute cancellations prevent other children from visiting in your place.

Where do the sessions take place?

All sessions take place at our rewilding project, Watercress Farm. The address is Watercress Farm, Bristol Road, Wraxall, BS48 1NE.

How do we get to Watercress Farm?

Watercress Farm can be accessed from Bristol Road. The postcode is BS48 1NE and this will take you to the top of the lane. You must follow the lane to the carpark which is signposted. The what3words location is: ///lives.occurs.finely.

How much does it cost?

Visits to our programme are completely FREE OF CHARGE. We believe in removing barriers to nature connection therefore, your experience is funded by Belmont. We cover the experience from staff to snacks, we just ask that you organise travel to and from the site for the group.

Is this a forest school experience?

No. Research shows that connecting to nature happens best through play. So, we base our sessions on this rather than planned activities like forest school.

Are there toilets?

Yes. We have toilets in our nature connection barn which is a 5 minute walk from our woodland base. We also have fresh drinking water and handwashing facilities at our woodland base.

How many supervising adults should we bring?

While we appreciate you may have many willing parent helpers that would like to come along, please only bring enough adults with you to cover your ratio requirements. Belmont staff are not included in your ratio.

What if it rains or is very windy?

We love being in nature in all weathers so we make it part of the fun. We advise to check weather in advance and dress appropriately. On very rare occasions, we may have to cancel a session if there are storms or very strong winds.

Do you provide risk assessments?

Yes, we have comprehensive risk assessments and a robust risk assessment policy which will be provided upon request, after booking. We recommend that you also complete your own risk assessment prior to your first visit and we are always happy to arrange a visit to accommodate this.

Do you accommodate children/ young people with SEND and, or SEMH needs?

We aim to remove barriers to nature connection and as such, strive to be as inclusive as possible. Our site is not entirely accessible however,so to ensure that our site can meet your groups' needs, please contact nature.connection@belmont.estate before booking.
