About this event

Who? This is open to young riders age 13 and above as well as adults who would like to have a go riding a fixed-wheel bike in a coached session on a grass surface.

What? We'll be running a British Schools Cycling Association championship event on Fridays in July and early August. This event will take place on the same course. The emphasis will be on fun plus developing skills and fitness. Young riders who get the hang of it will be able to enter the individual events on Friday evenings. Skills covered will include moving off, controlled stops, riding the track for the first time, holding a line, observation, joining the track, leaving the track, overtaking and being overtaken, riding out of the saddle.

When? Wednesdays 23 and 30 April, and 7, 14 and 28 May 2025, 18:30-19:30.

Where? Ackers Adventure, Golden Hillock Road, Small Heath, Birmingham, B11 2PY. Head for 'Ackers Base Camp'.

Why? This is the same venue and format we'll be using for the BSCA Grass Track Championships, so it will give riders a chance to preview the venue and hone their skills for the event.

What equipment do I need? Fixed-gear bikes will be available to borrow; Pleae bring helmet; gloves; clothing that can keep you warm enough – but not so you get too hot putting an effort in; layers are good. See Bike, Helmet and Clothing Checklist (PDF).

Safeguarding: The club's welfare officer is Kate Dighton, who can be contacted at welfare@beaconrcc.org.uk.

How much? Free for members; £2 for non-members. Optional junior club membership is £5.

For the young riders, a parent/carer must be present. Please complete a consent form (DOC) for all riders and e-mail to academy@beaconrcc.org.uk in advance.

How can I find out more? See http://beaconrcc.org.uk/academy/, https://www.facebook.com/BeaconCyclingAcademy or e-mail academy@beaconrcc.org.uk.
