Weekly Meeting - 'Beat Anxiety & Fear-Based Worry: Practical Tools & Tips'

A series of friendly, weekly meetings every Thursday night in the heart of the city centre that explore Mindfulness and give everyone the opportunity to experience some Mindfulness techniques in an easy and fun way. Everyone welcome!

Admission - £5 (waged) or £3 (unwaged or concession). Simply pay in cash on arrival at the door or, alternatively, buy your tickets in advance here on eventbrite

Details - A great evening of Mindfulness hosted by a respected professional Mindfulness teacher and featuring teaching from TWO top international Mindfulness experts! At our meeting this week we'll look at the powerful tools and techniques that Mindfulness offers us to overcome worry, anxiety and fear. Shaun, our Director and the evening's host (who is a prominent local Mindfulness teacher and a trained Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy coach), will explain the methods that Mindfulness provides to liberate us from the tyranny and suffering of fear and worry-based thinking. In a straightforward and very practical way, he'll guide us through the theory and practice of using Mindfulness to diminish the worry and emotional pain in our lives, and thereby free ourselves and enjoy and appreciate life much more! In addition, there'll be some expert teaching from top experts Tara Brach and Marsha Linen (both leading psychotherapists and prominent figures in the international Mindfulness movement) given in short but inspiring film and video clips, and there'll also be several periods of blissful, relaxing guided meditation plus the opportunity to get to know other group members over refreshments during the coffee break. So come and join us for a fantastic evening of Mindfulness!...

General:
We meet each week on Thursday evening to learn about Mindfulness and to explore Mindfulness techniques, particularly different methods of Mindfulness meditation.

These weekly meetings contain a mix of different elements - all of which are designed to deepen our understanding and experience of Mindfulness in a gentle, uncomplicated and easy-to-understand way. Our meetings include occasional talks from guest speakers, film or video presentations about Mindfulness and practical exercises that can help us to live in a Mindful way. Every week there is a period of group guided meditation that is a key part of the evening, providing direct, practical experience of Mindful meditation - plus there's opportunity to socialise with other group members over refreshments, making it a fun social evening too!

The atmosphere is very friendly, relaxed and informal - you'll get to meet a great bunch of interesting people, and new faces are very welcome.

We meet at 7pm and the meeting runs through to approximately 9pm.

To help cover room hire and other costs, there is an admission charge of £5 (waged) and £3 (unwaged). Tea, juice and biscuits are provided for FREE, and other hot and cold drinks (including latte, cappuccino, sodas and herbal teas) can be purchased at the counter.

About the Venue:
Cafe Sobar is a pleasant, contemporary cafe-bar-restaurant that is also the venue for our other regular meetings. It's alcohol free. It is very centrally located in the Nottingham city centre, just a two minute walk along Friar Lane from the Old Market Square (which is the hub of the Nottingham city centre, for those who aren't too familiar with the city). It's close to bus and tram stops, and it is a short walk from the rail station. There is convenient parking nearby.

Important - Mindfulness and other forms of meditation are safe and appropriate practices for the vast majority of people and they are proven to offer a wide range of benefits, including the lowering of stress and deep levels of relaxation. However current research indicates that all forms of meditation (including Mindfulness) may be unwise for people with bipolar vulnerability or those who are suffering from Post Traumatic Stress (PTSD), unless it is conducted under clinical supervision. If you are currently receiving treatment for any form of mental health issue (or have received such treatment in the recent past, or have reason to believe that you might need such treatment), you should consult your doctor or health care professional before engaging with Mindfulness or any form of meditation.
