Event description
Join London Medieval Society at our one day colloquium on Thomas Becket and London ahead of the 2020 commemorations.

About this Event

2020 marks an important dual anniversary for the extraordinary figure of Thomas Becket. 29th December 2020 will mark 850 years since his dramatic murder and 7th July 2020 will mark 800 years since his body was moved from a tomb in the crypt of Canterbury Cathedral to what would become an international shrine. Ahead of this important year, join the London Medieval Society for a one day colloquium with Dr Sarah Salih (King's College London), Dr Elizabeth New (Aberyswyth University), Emmamarie Haasl (University of Michigan), Eliot Benbow (University College London), Katherine Emery (King's College London), and Dr John Jenkins (University of York). Our speakers will cover a wide range of topics including representations of Becket in poetry, music, seals and pilgrim badges as well as his connections to the City of London.

Lunch is included in the ticket price, please contact Claire.Kennan@rhul.ac.uk if you have any dietary requirements that we need to be aware of.
