About this event

In a landscape carved out in the last Ice Age over 12,000 years ago, the Becky Falls waterfall sits at the heart of our park in a stunning boulder strewn valley. The waterfall itself is 70ft high and over 35ft wide in parts, where the Becka Brook runs between the huge granite boulders and onward down the Bovey valley. Although the main falls are spectacular, there are many smaller falls along the length of the brook for you to enjoy. Our waterfall is entirely natural and is especially stunning after recent rain fall.

Take time to explore over 50 acres of woodland and streams which are rich in wildlife. There are three trails to enjoy. The Blue Trail is a gentler walk through the ancient oak woodland and is where you'll find our Children's Nature Challenge. The Red Trail is where you will discover the main waterfall. For the more adventerous, carry on to the Purple Trail for views of the beautiful lower falls on more rugged terrain.

Our café and gift shop offer a range of local products as well as gifts from further afield. We have a lovely small zoo with a variety of animals and something to interest everyone. Ranging from Meerkats to Giant Tortoises, goats and ponies, to more exotic species in our Animal Discovery Zone.

Becky Falls is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and therefore all the walking trails are completely natural with steep steps, tree routes and boulders to negotiate. We are home to many rare species of flora and fauna for you to enjoy. Our maintenance team have empathetically introduced steps and handrails where possible and appropriate but the woodland is primarily for the wildlife. You’ll need a fair level of fitness and be confident underfoot to view the waterfall and complete any of the trails. We want to protect the woodland and its inhabitants for years to come and hope you understand our reasoning for keeping the woodland as natural as possible.

Frequently asked questions

Are you dog friendly?

Yes! Dogs on leads are very welcome here. The only area they cannot enter are the Animal Discovery Zone.

Are the walking trails wheelchair/pushchair friendly?

No. We are a Site of Special Scientific Interest and therefore the woodland is completely natural with tree roots, boulders, steep steps etc. If you don’t have your own child carrier these are available on loan free of charge (a returnable deposit required). Collect one from the Gift Shop.

Is Becky Falls part of the National Trust?

No. We are a small family business. Pippa and Paul live and work here and both their adult children (Emily & Adam) work here too.
