Tower Hamlets CEPN is pleased to present this bespoke course targeted at GP Practice reception and administrative staff. The course will develop ‘Prescribing Champions’ who will be able to implement the below objectives and also facilitate other staff to learn the key aspects of repeat prescribing common to all General Practice settings. The course will be delivered by local GP, Dr Khyati Bakhai and a local community pharmacist.

Objectives

Those trained will be able to:

  • Use EMIS to manage repeat prescribing, recognise underuse and overuse of medicines, be able to communicate effectively with patients and Clinicians to query these issues.

  • Understand the role of the community pharmacist, including the core offer contracted by the NHS, thus be able to effectively signpost appropriate patients to this

  • Manage queries regarding dosette boxes

  • Understand sensitivities around control drugs

  • Identify that some medication require patient monitoring (e.g. blood tests) before dispensing. Examples used will include Warfarin, Methotrexate and Thyroxine. Assist patients with electronic prescribing issues

Those trained will also be able to facilitate others to develop and achieve the objectives above.

The course will be interactive, using group work and role play to help receptionists understand the issues discussed and enable them to improve their communication skills and knowledge regarding prescribing issues. A ‘toolkit’ will be available for participants to enable the learning to be shared with other practice staff will include a work book to help receptionists new to prescribing issues gain confidence and knowledge. Participants will also be given guidance on how they may share the learning at practice level.
