About this Event

Becoming a Principal Investigator

The session will be led by Professor Kathryn Abel, Professor of Psychological Medicine at the University of Manchester, Senior Investigator and a National Specialty Lead at the National Institute of Health Research. Professor Abel has been awarded over 25 prestigious research grants over the past 10 years and has been a PI or CI on a significant number of research projects.

This workshop is open to healthcare professionals working within the following clinical specialities who are thinking about becoming a clinical research Principal Investigator:-

  • Ageing
  • Dementia
  • Health Services Research
  • Mental Health
  • Oral and Dental
  • Primary Care
  • Public Health
  • Trauma/Emergency Care

Aims / Objectives:

To gain an understanding of:

• The role of the Principal Investigator in the context of clinical research delivery

• The preparation and practical steps needed for taking on this role

• Key relationships & guidance to support you to integrate research into your practice

At the end of the session you will be aware of the roles and responsibilities of being a PI and the expectations of the Sponsor in your role.
