Event description

Description

Overview:

This exciting new course will really boost your skills and confidence in white water. The focus is on using 'coaching the mind' techniques to maximise skill acquisition. We will be combining effective practice, motivationally supportive learning environments and mental skills training. This two day, practically based, course will be based on the River Wye at Symonds Yat, in stunning Ross-on-Wye.

You will be introduced to the basic principles of effective practice and performance psychology. We will cover all of the theory in the British Canoeing, Coaching the Mind Intermediate module and put it into practice blending bite sizes of theory with lots of time on the water. This course brings the theory up to date and makes it cohesive and user-friendly. You will gain a good understanding of how to develop your white water paddling and how to use mental skills effectively. All practice is not equal!

Course outline:

  • Understand how to practice effectively

  • Understand motivation theories and their importance for learning

  • Introduction to mental skills (arousal, motivation, focus of attention, imagery, self-talk, and performance profiling)

  • Develop your own performance profile and goal setting

  • Lots of application and practice to engage, inspire, motivate, and result in effective learning.
