Musical developments in sixteenth and seventeenth century England. Bedford Gallery Quire bring back to life some of the forgotten music.

About this event

In a costumed concert performance of ‘West Gallery’ and social music, combining choral voices with period instruments (violin, flageolets, serpent and ophicleïde) to bring to life the music of the choirs and bands of the towns and village churches of the Counties of Huntingdonshire and Cambridgeshire.

Setting the hymns and anthems of local composers against the songs of the catch and glee clubs, and using early eighteenth century (and later) music from the carefully preserved archives of The Huntingdonshire Collection here in Huntingdon itself, we offer an evening of the musical and social history of eighteenth and nineteenth century Historical Huntingdonshire.

Doors open at 19:00 with the concert starting at 19:30, there will be two 35 minute halves with an interval, finishing at approximately 21:15.
