Description

The Bedtime Stories for the End of the World podcast is hosting a one-off event at The Book Club to showcase some of the poets from across the first two series.

Poets Rachel Long, Miriam Nash and Amina Jama, will join podcast host Eleanor Penny to read poems commissioned for the series and discuss the value of stories in our apocalyptic age.


Rachel Long is a poet and founder of Octavia Poetry Collective for Womxn of Colour. Her poetry and prose have been published most recently in Filigree: An Anthology of Black British Poetry, and Mal - a journal of sexuality and erotics. She is Assistant Tutor to Jacob Sam-La Rose on the Barbican Young Poets programme and Poetry Fellow of the University of Hertfordshire.

Miriam Nash is a poet, performer and educator from the Scottish and British Isles. Her poetry collection, All the Prayers in the House, won a Somerset Maugham Award and an Eric Gregory Award from the Society of Authors. She works for the Ministry of Stories in East London, leading creative writing workshops for children and young people.

Amina Jama is a Somali-British writer. She is an alumnus of Barbican Young Poetry, member of Octavia Poetry Collective and co-host of BoxedIN poetry night. She has been commissioned by the BBC, The Queens Gallery, Buckingham Palace and the Mayor of London's Office. Her poems for both adults and children have been anthologised, including in The Things I Would Tell You, edited by Sabrina Mahfouz.
