Frequently asked questions
Twyning is a village in Gloucestershire, nestled between the river Severn and River Avon. Green Farm is in the heart of the village and is the former training apiary for Malvern and Upton Beekeepers Association and you will be taught during the day by a number of different beekeepers.
Everyone associated with the day will be an experienced beekeeper, and a member of Malvern and Upton Beekeepers. We will all have our own bees at our home or out-apiary and will have many years of experience between us.
Yes we have an on site flush toilet available for all to use.
We ask you to bring a packed lunch. We will provide teas and coffees during the day as often as needed.
Bees sting! How we react to their stings is the real answer to this. Some people, fortunately very few, can react with anaphylaxis. Wasp stings are more likely to cause this. Most people can tolerate bee stings easily and often they are not as bad as being stung by a stinging nettle.
Great question! A healthy awareness of bees is a positive attitude and we teach you to be calm and handle them gently. This usually means they are well behaved. If they are grumpy on the day this may be because there is a storm brewing and we will use our judgement about opening the hives.
Yes, plenty of parking in the field. If its wet and soggy we have a car park area that should accommodate all or most vehicles.
A packed lunch, A pair of wellies and a pair of marigold gloves. We recommend long sleeve shirts and long trousers, jeans are best.
The location is in a field and wheel chair access is limited. If you are able to walk, the distances are short, less than 50m and on level grassy ground. If you need a carer, this is probably not for you.
All adults over 18yrs if they are able bodied. Please note lifting may be required during practical session.
