Orchestra of St John's journey through the symphonies of Beethoven culminates in this magnificent work the choral symphony, his ninth. Commissioned by the Philharmonic Society of London, this work with its groundbreaking addition of voices in the last movement is one of the great works of all time. Beethoven affirms his belief in freedom and joy through Schiller's famous words in the Ode to Joy.
Our first performance of this programme will be in the superb acoustic of St John's Church, Bromsgove, the town's historic landmark 12th century building. And we are very pleased to take our second performance of this concert to the breathtaking surroundings of Worcester Cathedral for the second concert on May 5th. For these two special concerts we are delighted to be joined by soloist, Charlotte Moseley, in the sublime and challenging violin concerto by Elgar, especially poignant here on his home turf in Worcestershire. Concert is supporting the St Johns Heritage Fund for landmark restoration ans improvment.
