Presents:

Elgar: Violin concerto

Beethoven: Symphony No 9, The Choral

Orchestra of St John's journey through the symphonies of Beethoven culminates in the magnificent work that is the choral symphony, his ninth. Commissioned by the Philharmonic Society of London, this work with its groundbreaking addition of voices in the last movement is one of the great works of all time. Beethoven affirms his belief in freedom and joy through Schiller's famous words in the Ode to Joy. We are very pleased to take this our second performance to the magnificent surroundings of Worcester Cathedral for the concert on May 5th.

We are delighted to be joined by soloist, Charlotte Moseley, in the sublime and challenging violin concerto by Elgar, especially poignant here on his home turf in Worcestershire. In 2017 Charlotte graduated from the Royal Academy of Music with Distinction. She was awarded the prestigious Diploma of the Royal Academy for an outstanding final recital. Charlotte plays on an 1884 Joseph Hel violin. She is kindly supported by the David Morgan Music Trust, the Helen Mackaness Foundation and the Elmley Foundation.
