Join Voce Writer-in-Residence TAYLOR BURNS for the first in a series of free writer drop-in sessions, this one aimed specifically at gearing writers up for successfully preparing work for submission.
‘Literature is like any other trade; you will never sell anything unless you go to the right shop.’
—GEORGE BERNARD SHAW
Passing on the advice & experience Taylor has garnered over nearly 10 years of submitting writing in all its forms — short stories, complete manuscripts, poetry, proposals — this session will provide insight on how to pitch, query, submit, and ultimately sell your work, whether it be to agents, publishers, or magazines.
There are no hard & fast rules to the submissions process, of course, and getting your work placed anywhere often depends on a lot more than just the quality of your work. But there are still processes to go through and practices to be upheld.
Querying can seem impervious at first; a completely closed shop. But with experience in submitting successfully to both independent presses and mainstream publishers, Taylor will aim to guide you through the complexities and politics of submitting your work.
This workshop is supported using public funding by ARTS COUNCIL ENGLAND.
This is one of our WORKSHOP events, with a specific focus on the craft & business of writing, & place-making for writers in the West Midlands.
