This will be a gentle-paced women-only ride suitable for anyone who can ride a bike. You will need to be able to pedal, steer and use the brakes. The ride is just under 6 miles long, using a mixture of cycle paths and quiet roads, and visits three venues open to the public for Oxford Open Doors Weekend.
We will be meeting at 09:30 for a prompt start at 09:45. Our meeting point will be at the bandstand in Florence Park.
We'll be cycling first along Barracks Lane to visit St Bartlemas Chapel (a former sanctuary for those with leprosy). We'll then head over the river to visit the Corpus Christi College Barge. Our last Open Doors venue is South Oxford Community Centre, which has a fascinating history as the water pumping station for the City. We'll get refreshments at the Community Centre, before heading back along the river to Florence Park, via Meadow Lane.
We aim to be back by 12:30.
Please make sure your bike is in good working order. We don't have bikes available to borrow for this ride.
Please bring with you:
- A helmet if you wish to wear one
- Water
- Practical weather appropriate clothing
- Snacks if required
- Money/card for the café if you'd like to buy refreshments
