About this event
We’re crocheting . . .
A super-sized Sunburst cushion!!
The Sunburst block is a super-pretty crochet design featuring puffs and clusters to give lots of texture and dimension. Normally you would change colour each round, but they are just as pretty made all in one colour and super-sizing it means you'll get quicker results and hardly any yarn tails to weave in!
The plan is to crochet blocks to make a square cushion, but you are welcome to use the CAL to start your own project to work on over the winter months - maybe a super-chunky blanket, a bag, another cushion style. You can also make the squares smaller or even bigger and try adding in some colour.
This crochet-along is suitable for . . .
Anyone with just a little know-how of the basic stitches, but adventurous beginners looking for a challenge would be welcome
Refreshing forgotten skills
Anyone just looking for some creative company
Crochet skills and techniques we’ll try . . .
The magic ring!
Puffs and clusters
Neat colour changing (if you're colour changing)
Turning a circle into a square
Joining squares
3 of the main crochet stitches (US terms)
Invisible joins and tips for neat finishing
What you’ll need to bring . . .
A 9.0mm crochet hook
Super-chunky yarn (approximately 350g)*
A 35cm² (14" x 14") cushion pad with nice cambric cover (not the cheap non-woven style which will show through the crochet)**
*I used Yarnsmiths Create Super Chunky (4 balls). Sirdar, King Cole, James C Brett, Cygnet & Stylecraft all have some good options that won't cost too much.
**You may wish to wait until the final week to buy a pad incase your cushion is crocheting up smaller/ bigger!!
What’s included/ provided . . .
The crochet pattern
I have stitch markers, scissors and needles to borrow, but you’re welcome to bring your own

Frequently asked questions
There's nothing too complicated in this make, but you will get more from the class if you have a few basic crochet skills to start with. But if you're an adventurous beginner looking for a challenge I'm happy for you to join in.
I teach right handed and unfortunately I don't have the skills to teach left handed students, but we can try mirroring?
Nope! You can use the workshop as a guide to making the sunburst block then use it to start your own crochet project. I'll help as much as I can if you want to try making something different.
