Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Would you love to learn all about dressmaking and making clothes?

Know how to use a sewing machine but want to progress on to making your own designs?Great news, this is the course for you!

You will be taught in an actual fashion design studio by MaryRose - a multi award winning womanswear designer who has over 2 decades experience in the fashion industry, having designed for many well known brands such as Oasis, M&S, Debenhams and others in London before her return home to NI.

The Coco dress (A Tilly And The Buttons sewing pattern) is the perfect introduction to sewing low stretch knit fabrics on your regular sewing machine. It's ultra simple, easy fitting, with no zips, buttons or other fiddly bits. The classic style features a boat neckline, choice of top or dress lengths, three quarter length or long sleeves, with side splits at the hips on the top version. You can make it your own with optional sixties funnel roll neck, rolled cuffs and patch pockets

  • "The Coco dress/top from Tilly and the Buttons is THE pattern to own right now." - Sew magazine

  • "I completed my first Coco dress in what seemed like 12 seconds. Where has this pattern been all my life?! Such a joy to sew." - Charlie

The course includes:

* 10 hours of teaching from a fashion industry professional

* Take away the Coco sewing pattern by Tilly and the buttons - a multi size pattern which features the dress and skirt shapes with loads of design detailing options to choose from.

* The jargon buster accompanying instruction booklet is also yours to keep, which shows the manufacture breakdown in illustrated images, perfect for remembering what you have learnt in class.

* All machinery and equipment is provided for you

* Lots of tea and cake while you learn:)

Who is the course suitable for?

This course is suitable for confident beginners: students must be able to do and fully understand the following easily and without any help from a tutor:

1. Thread a machine and bobbin

2. Sew in a straight line and backtack

3. Understand seam allowances

4. The student will have made and completed beginners projects: eg: Tote bag, cushion, pj trouser, simple garments.

NOTE: The course is NOT suitable for absolute beginner sewers, who are not familiar with a sewing machine.

Do I need to bring a sewing machine with me?

No - we supply all machines and equipment you will need.

What do I need to bring with me?

IT IS VITAL YOU CHOOSE THE CORRECT FABRIC - this is very important!!

You will need to bring a medium weight knit fabric with very little stretch. Look out for interlock knit, double knit, ponte di roma, make sure it's not too fine or stretchy.

Please ask for help choosing fabrics in the shop if you do not understand the above description, as the wrong fabrics can not be used in this class.

* Fabric – 2m x 150cm wide (2 ¼ yards x 60in) OR 2.7m x 115cm wide (3 yards x 45in) for dress

* Matching thread

* Ribbon (30cm x 6-8mm wide) or stay tape

How many students are in the class?

Only 6 students are in the class, we keep classes small to ensure loads of teacher / pupil attention, our classes are fun, relaxed and a great way to get a bit of 'me time' while making new friends!

How much does the course cost?

The course includes 10 hours of teaching, the use of all machinery and equipment, your fab Tilly and the Buttons sewing patterns and accompanying sewing booklet to take away.

The course cost is £120.

Can I advance onto another course afterwards?

Of course!!!! We have lots of amazing dressmaking classes planned so you can fill a whole wardrobe with your creations.....

Any other important stuff I should know before booking?

Just a few things to bear in mind:

1. Please make sure you are at the level required to attend the class. Do not book this course if you are not at the level of skill required as detailed above.

It is the students responsibility to ensure they have chosen the correct course which suits their skill levels.

2. We have so much to learn in each class - late arrivals disrupt teaching for the others in class. Plus, we are so busy we can not recap for anyone who arrives 10 minutes or more late. There is parking at Conway Mill, and it is easy to find - only a couple of minutes from Belfast city centre.

3. We can't split classes between two people- one person attends all. (Classes are for adults age 18+).

4. Cancellations: We do not refund classes, so please ensure you can attend all dates. Should you find you can not make the course, you can send someone in your place for the 4 classes.

Can I call the studio for more info if I have any questions?
