Beginners Earring making workshop

Making your own earrings is easier than you think! With a little practice, you'll soon be able to make stunning, unique earrings to match any outfit, or to give as personalised presents.

Tools, findings, beads and charms will be provided, but you are welcome to bring along your own beads if you have a specific pair you'd like to turn into earrings. Please show them to me at the start to check if they are suitable.

The earring style we will learn is a dangle (which can be long or short as you prefer) on silver plated "fish hook" style ear wires. A small number of silver plated clip-on hooks will be available which are suitable for light dangles, and if you have sensitive ears, sterling silver hooks can be purchased at £1 per pair.

We will learn about the basic tools and findings used to make simple earrings, then I will demonstrate 3 basic jewellery making techniques, along with the advantages and disadvantages of each:

  • Using jump rings, with emphasis on the correct way to open and close them

  • Simple loops using round nose pliers and wire cutters

  • Wrapped loops using round nose pliers, wire cutters and holding pliers

You will then have the chance to choose your beads and technique, and have a go at making earrings.  Kristy  will be on hand to help out if needed.

Participants will leave the session with a handout showing the techniques used, as well as the earrings you've managed to complete during the workshop. All participants will take away *at least* one pair of earrings, but most will manage several pairs.

Please note that this course will only run if a minum of 3 tickets have been sold - if there are fewer than 3 participants booked by the day before the workshop, I'm afraid I will need to cancel and refund your ticket.

If you would like to attend but this date does not suit you, please contact me to be informed when more dates become available; or alternatively a private workshop can be arranged in your home or mine.

IMPORTANT : This workshop is being held in my home, so please take note of the following:

  • The house number will be provided in the confirmation email, so please do not delete it!
  • Wheelchair access is difficult as there is a steep slope and a small step into the house, as well as a tight corner from the hallway into the living room through a narrow door. Some wheelchairs may simply not fit. Please contact me before booking if this is of concern.
  •  Access using other mobility aids should be possible, though it may be a long walk for you depending on where you find parking along Varney Road. The workshop takes place on the ground floor, and there is a toilet on the same level.
  • We do have pet cats, including a long haired cat who sheds a lot. If you are allergic, please take any medicines you need before attending.

FAQs

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

No ID is required, but the workshop is only suitable for adults and teens aged 14+. For younger children, please contact me to arrange a personalised workshop with fewer participants.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Bus numbers 3 and 4 stop nearby on Long Chaulden from both Hemel Hempstead town centre and the train station, however they are not always reliable. We are about a mile from the train station, which is about a 25-30 minute brisk walk, or a short taxi journey.

If driving, parking is very limited on Valleyside, so please park on Varney Road then use the footpath near the corner of Valleyside and Varney Road to make your way to the front door.

What can I bring into the event?

Feel free to bring any jewellery tools you may already have, along with any beads or other objects you think would make good earrings. Ideally these objects should have a hole in them to be suitable for the methods we will learn during this workshop.

Tea and coffee will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own refreshments if you prefer.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

Please email kristy@dragonbright.co.uk

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No, as long as your name matches the one you booked under. If it does not, either a printed ticket or a copy of the pdf on your phone will be adequate.
