Beginners Guide to Sewing and Making Clothes - 8 weeks

2 1/2 hour classes run every Wednesday evening for 8 weeks from January 18th to March 8th
There's nothing I love more than introducing new people to the addictive world of sewing. This 8 week course is for absolute beginners. Even if you have never threaded a needle, or sewn a stitch before this course will give you the confidence and encouragement to tackle new projects. Each class is 2 1/2 hours long which allows plenty of time to get stuck in and complete each weeks project. Time tends to fly in when your sewing!
Christine teaches with patience, enthusiasm and encouragement at every step. Our N.I Sewing Bee Angeline Murphy was once one of her dressmaking students. She has over 25 years experience in fashion, costume, and self employment in Northern Ireland. Her mum taught her to sew when she was 6.
We will cover all the basics including:
How to thread up the sewing machine and sew in a straight line.
Making seams and hems.
How to insert a lapped zip.
Learning to press with the iron, and essential hand sewing techniques and tips.
How to cut fabric, choose a pattern and cut out a simple garment.
By the end of the of 8 weeks you will have made your first garment. Everyone will work on a project suitable for Beginners level.
All machines are provided and there is 1 overlocker. All machines are domestic. You are welcome to bring your own machine if you prefer.
A small materials list will be given out at the first class. Please bring a notepad and a camera to class.
Class sizes are limited to 5 people so that learning is focused and fun. There must be a minimum of 3 people booked on for the class to run.
