Event description

Description

This is a session for those who are new to kayaking. You will learn the basic techniques of kayaking. Once the instructor is sure that you are able to handle a boat effectively, you will be invited to join one of our regular sessions, which are on Saturday morning for adults and on Saturday afternoon for juniors. Our beginner's classes use nice stable kayaks. In the regular sessions we use racing kayaks, which can be a little bit tricky for beginners, but once you have done our beginners course, you will be able to get into a racing kayak with confidence. It will normally take between 4 to 6 sessions to get enough experience to move onto a racing kayak. If you just want to give it a try, just book one session. You can start on any Saturday we are running the beginners' course. If you want to progress more, book the sessions which you are able to come to. These sessions will run most weeks throughout the summer. Check out our website to find out when the beginners' sessions are running.

Partcipants must be able to swim 30 metres.

FAQs

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
From age 8. Parents or Carers are asked to remain at the club for the first couple of sessions until we are sure that your child is confident on the water.

What's the refund policy?
Once you have paid, we will not be able to offer a refund.

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?
The name you register on should be the person turning up.

What should I wear?
There is no need to go to any great expense to start kayaking; shorts or tracksuit trousers and a t-shirt or sweat shirt plus old trainers or surf shoes are more than adequate. However, be prepared for different weather conditions. If it is sunny, ensure you have a hat and sun tan lotion. If it is cold, windy or raining we can provide cagoules and it may be advisable to wear warmer clothes, a warm hat, or even thermals. Remember to bring a towel to dry off after canoeing and change of clothes in case you have fallen in.
