This course is for complete beginners - you will learn to read a map. We will look at different types of maps, and focus mainly on the popular OS map. Maps will be provided. We will be outside and walk for several hours (we will stop frequently to discuss what you are learning). Bring waterproofs if it is going to rain and wear comfortable footwear. We will walk mainly on paths. One very short section will be going up hill and down hill.
We will be in a beautiful location near the river Thames, there are woodlands, open fields and some small hills. It is an excellent location to learn map reading and navigation.
You will learn about map symbols such as paths and tracks. How to orientate a map. Measuring distance on a map. We will also look at contour features. You will learn one skill at a time and build up your knowledge.
There will be a maximum of 6 people so everyone will be able to ask questions.
