About this event

THIS IS A 5-WEEK COURSE 15TH APRIL TO 20TH MAY WITH NO SESSION ON 6TH MAY AS IT IS A BANK HOLIDAY

Start your week right with this Beginners Pottery Course! Take some time out to relax, learn a new skill and get creative.

Join talented ceramicist and artist Poppy Davis of Clod Studio to try your hand at clay in this fun and unique ceramic course!

Over the 5-week course you will be guided through how to hand build your own ceramics.

This is a course for beginners and no previous experience is necessary.

All materials are included and you will finish with 4 completed and fired ceramic pieces.

Week 1 Mini candlestick decorated with coloured slip and sgraffito techniques.

Week 2 Slab vase making with relief decoration. Creating vases using slab building techniques, and adding relief shapes for decoration.

Week 3 Coil built mug. Learning coil technique to build up layers of clay to create the mug body and add handles.

Week 4 Slab built soap dish. Creating soap dishes, use hole makers to create drainage holes and carve patterns into them.

Week 5 Glazing week: we will glaze all of the pottery from the previous 4 weeks using a white or transparent glaze with a selection of different coloured glaze stain washes to choose from.

At the end of the course Poppy will take the creations back to her studio, fire them and return them to the community centre for collection within 4 weeks. You will receive an email when your pieces are ready for collection.

Hot drinks and biscuits are also included.

To ensure this Beginners Potter Course is accessible to everyone we have made it Pay What You Can for the 5-week Course. We have suggested £12 per session to help cover costs but if this is not affordable for you then please input what you can. (When booking, please add a donation of however much you can afford for the 5-week course). Any donation is welcome. If you have any questions about bookings, please contact us by email on stitchup.liz@gmail.com or pop into the Stitch-Up Studio.

Stitch-Up CIC is a social enterprise and any profits we make are reinvested straight back into delivering our creative community projects supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged people in Leeds to learn new skills and improve wellbeing.

We will also be using this time to gain feedback from participants about what creative activities they would like to see going forward at Meanwood Community Centre so all feedback is greatly appreciated.

There is ample parking available at the Community Centre Car Park. If you cannot fit in the Car Park, please park on the main part of Stainbeck Avenue, with consideration to the residents please do not park in the cul-de-sac.
