If you’re baffled by the sewing machine, then this course is for you!

Suitable for sewers with no machine experience.
  • Begin to use a sewing machine - wind on a bobbin, thread the machine, and learn to start sewing forward in straight lines,wavy lines and turn corners.
  • Sew simple seams.
  • Find out about simple seam finishes.
  • Mark up your choice of fabric from our selection & cut it out using a simple pattern. 
  • At the end of the class you take away not only your finished cushion cover including the cushion pad, but a pattern so you can make again at home.

The Thrifty Stitcher

Learn to sew with Claire-Louise Hardie, The Sewing Producer and Mastermind for The Great British Sewing Bee! She's a Professional Costumier with an impressive CV of employers that includes-
ITV:The RSC:The Royal National Theatre:BBC: Regent’s Park open air Theatre and “The Audience” with Dame Helen Mirren.


I have a passion for teaching beginners to sew!


When not teaching at The Thrifty Studio I'm also a Love sewing Magazine columnist: A Sewing Bee Author: Pattern Designer and a Masters student at London College of Fashion

My first book: ``The Great British Sewing Bee- Fashion with Fabric`` won best sewing book 2015 in the British Sewing Awards.

Some of my masters research work is currently part of the Balenciaga Exhibition at The V and A Museum. 


I offer small sized, friendly sewing classes and courses in Stoke Newington North London. 

My mission is to de-mystify the art of sewing and clothes making, showing you just how easy and fun it can be. We offer a range of contemporary sewing classes, suitable for adults at all levels. Fitting is our passion, and we love to helping students make clothes that fit.
