If you've always wanted to find a way into the world of fashion but have been apprehensive about the cost of tuition, this is the perfect opportunity for you!

Join our beginner-friendly sewing course and learn the essentials of domestic machine sewing. Thanks to funding from the Greater London Authority, we’re offering a limited number of fully subsidised spots - so don’t miss out!

Over three weeks, you’ll receive 10 hours of hands-on instruction from expert tutor Ray French. You’ll build confidence as you explore key sewing techniques, from threading a machine (yes, including the bobbin!) to inserting invisible zips and mastering professional finishing touches like French seams and welt pockets.

This course is more than just an introduction to sewing - it’s a chance to unlock your creativity and develop skills that can grow into something bigger. By the end, you’ll feel empowered to take on more ambitious projects - and you’ll leave with beautiful, handmade creations to show for it.

ABOUT THE TUTOR:

Ray French spent most of his career in fashion, working with high-end designers – he started out working for Zandra Rhodes, then progressed and moved to various companies, learning his trade. After a few years honing his skills, he opened his first shop in Camden high street, selling exclusive, unique garments. During that time, he was invited to showcase his clothes in many fashion shows, which lead to him being approached by a theatre company to create costumes for the main leads in a modern Shakespearean play. He was also approached by a music channel to dress their presenters.

Ray has worked for various designers, from Vivienne Westwood to Victoria Beckham and has taken part in London and Paris fashion shows over the years. One of his students entered the MTV competition and won with Ray’s help.

Ray started teaching over ten years ago and has never looked back. He finds teaching an enjoyable experience and is keen to share his knowledge with anyone who wants to learn the technical skills of the fashion trade.

Teaching sewing is not just about imparting technical skills, but also about nurturing a love of creativity and craftsmanship. With dedication and a passion for sewing, Ray creates a thriving sewing class that empowers students to explore their creative potential.

TESTIMONIALS FOR RAY:

I'm absolutely loving this course, I have learned so much since attending 2 weeks ago, as well as a one-to-one session, when I was a complete beginner. Ray is an amazing tutor, he's patient and calm and has an excellent teaching manner, I would highly recommend this course if you are contemplating trying your hand at sewing. - Sandra

Loving my sessions at Thread & Needle Workshop. The mood and atmosphere is fabulous, location is good and our Tutor has the most patience with us especially me, I’m a beginner. He is professional and calm throughout... come as see for yourself!!! - Deborah

I recommend this workshop, it's very therapeutic, Ray our tutor/teacher is brilliant. He's very calming and helps whatever the situation. I've only had 2 sessions, and in those two sessions I have learned to sew in a straight line, zig zag, thread a bobin, thread the machine needle, do a French seam and a double turn. Yes, I am a beginner, I have never sewed. Also, the class is fun I enjoy it very much. - Carl
