Beginners Spoon Carving
Overview
Carve your own wooden spoon using locally-sourced green wood.
Located in the woods at Faldonside Eco, on the banks of the River Tweed, this introduction to spoon carving will teach you how to create and object that is both beautiful and useful. Start the day with a block of wood, and end it with your own spoon to take home. Spoon carving is a slow, therapeutic craft that can be done using simple tools: an axe and specialist carving knives.
This course is designed to guide you through the basics:
An introduction to green woodworking
Choosing the best wood for your project, the pros and cons of different woods
Safe and efficient tool use: axes, saws, knives.
Spoon design
Axing out your spoon
Whittling techniques
Finishing: drying, burnishing, and oiling.
Maximum: six people per course.
Suitable for: adults
Full day, refreshments and soup lunch provided
