Beginners Upholstery 10 Week Workshop - Thursday Afternoon or Evening

Held weekly on Thursdays - 20th of April - 29th of June 2017 (Break 25th of May)
2-4.30pm or 6.30-9pm
£175 per 10 week block
The course is aimed at beginners who would like to learn traditional techniques used in upholstery.
The time frame allows students to work on reupholstering an unsprung dining chair or footstool. Other projects can be worked on also, depending on the project chosen it may take more or less that the 10 week course, advice can be given on this.
The course gives students an understanding of the first stage in traditional upholstery of building a stitched, stuffed seat pad which can then be applied to more complex projects. Offering relaxed and sociable learning environment, to turn unloved items into cherished pieces for your home!
Over the duration of the course you will learn -
- How to strip back a chair and repair a damaged frame
- How to use tools appropriately and the use of upholstery sundries
- How to re-web a chair
- Build up a stitched stuffed seat pad
- Professional cuts to fit fabric to a frame
- How to identify appropriate fabrics for use in upholstery
- Apply trims
Sundries such as tacks, twines and glues are included in the course. All other sundries required such as hessians, coir, calico and horse hair are available to purchase, the cost of an average chair is around £20-30. All tools are on hand to use.
Places are limited and are on a first come first serve basis, so book early to avoid disappointment. A £60 deposit is required to secure your booking.
