This course gives you the opportunity to choose one of the following four woodwork projects to work on from start to finish with the guidance of our in-house teachers, ensuring everyone is supported according to their individual needs.
- making a stool,
- a birdbox,
- a crate/gardening box
- or a spice rack.
This course is an ideal follow-up to the Basic Home DIY course where you will have been introduced to the various hand and power tools essential for any DIY and woodworking projects. The four projects will all give the opportunity to further practice your skills with hand and power tools whilst coming away with a product that fits your needs. Teachers will guide you through the designing and making process with tips and tricks about working with wood, but it won't cover introduction to tools.Participants will work towards gaining the following skills:
- Basic design principles when working with wood
- How to make a cut list
- Accurately cutting and measuring your pieces
- How to assemble your work
- Sanding and finishing techniques
Overview of the sessions content:
Session 1 - Select project, marking up, cutting list, cutting
Session 2 - Sanding, glueing, assembly
Session 3 - Finishes, fillers
What to bring:
Bring anything that might need to be measured to fit with your chosen project. E.g: a spice jar if making a spice rack, a specific tool/item to go in the crate.
