Event description

Description

An adult evening class brought to you by Lifelong Learning Dundee.

Tutor: Matthew Jarron

Number of weeks: 5

The death of Stalin in 1953 led to a re-thinking of Soviet policy in many areas, including the cinema. Censorship was relaxed and film-makers gained new freedom of expression, resulting in a wave of artistically ambitious productions that saw the USSR regain worldwide prestige for the quality of its films. This short course will explore some of the highlights of Soviet film-making in the late 1950s and 60s, featuring the work of new talents such as Grigory Chukhrai, Sergei Parajanov and Andrei Tarkovsky.

Each class will include extracts and a complete film.
