Guest Speaker: Darren Evans
Darren has nearly twenty years experience of first-hand design agency practice. As a co-founder of a successful design and brand agency, he is a strong advocate for service design thinking and believes his business has been transformed since he adopted service design tools and practices within his agency - even winning him work at pitch stage. He is keen to share this experience with the industry, believing that knowledge sharing and co-creation is the future of work.
Across his years in the design industry, Darren has become an experienced creative director and brand consultant. As current Design Director at The Engine Room, he has extensive brand experience working with SMEs as well as global businesses across every sector. Directing the creative team to meet client growth objectives, Darren’s firm belief in design thinking for business and user-centred techniques make him an expert in designing ‘different’. He is a member of the Design Business Association and his agency have won two consecutive Design Effectiveness Awards for their work.
Guest Speaker: Lesley Gulliver
Lesley has worked in the design industry for close to twenty years. She has led teams in the delivery of integrated communications projects for clients such as Motorola, Sema and NTL as well as some fantastic brands in the SME sector. She was a Board Director for a brand consultancy approaching £3million turnover with 30 staff, prior to moving up north to head up the client management division of ZOO Digital Group PLC. Since 2004 she has worked independently as a communications consultant and design manager.
Lesley has a first class honours degree from the UCE Business School and has Chartered Institute of Marketing Diploma qualifications. She also studied at L'Université de Toulon et du Var and is a French speaker. She has a keen interest in Carl Rogers' theories on person-centred psychotherapy - particularly its application to organisational culture. She studied for two years at Temenos Education, one of the UK's leading centres for person-centred learning.
Lesley is one of a small number of Design Associates for The Design Council – the national strategic body for design. Since joining The Engine Room in 2013, Lesley’s strong focus on strategic objectives and her results-driven approach have enabled her success in building major corporate brands and launching new ones. Lesley is interested in measurable returns and understands ‘brand’ in terms of impact, growth, service development and culture change.
