Event description

Come and marvel at some fabulous façades...

The 1930s saw a spate of rebuilding – out with the old Victorian and fussy Edwardian – in with a new forward-thinking motivational style.

There really are some corkers along this route – you are guaranteed to find at least one building with the 'ooh' factor.

See the clean lines of the 1930s applied in various ways to places of commerce, art, health, housing and entertainment.

Find out who built these impressive structures and why.

We'll also look at and compare some modern buildings that echo the stylised designs of old.

The walk will start near the Bishopsgate entrance to Liverpool Street station and ends near Aldgate station.

The walk should take 90mins but please allow two hours to cover time for questions and discussions that sometimes happen along this route.

Why not make a Deco day of it?
This tour is preceded by another Jazz Age tour – see some impressive 1930s façades in nearby Shoreditch/Hoxton – please see my other listings

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

There is no minimum age – children aged 5 or younger are welcome at no charge.
However, please note that all other children up to age 15 must be accompanied by an adult – one child per paying adult.

Can I just show up and pay on arrival?

No, I'm sorry – this is a ticketed event and spaces are limited – places must be booked in advance.

Where exactly does this tour start?

Details of the exact meeting point will be on your booking confirmation and ticket which will be sent via email.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Please don't waste time and resources printing out your ticket.
I will have a list of attendees on the day, although it would be wise to make a note of your booking reference

Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?

As you can appreciate, transfers/reassignments do not apply to those who just do not show up.

However, in cases of illness or unforseen circumstances I will be happy to transfer your booking to another of my walks on another date as long as you let me know at least two hours before your booked walk is due to start.

Alternatively ... perhaps you might be able to offer your ticket to a friend ... please see the next question...

Is it OK if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

This is fine – just email/text me the name of the person who will be taking your place.

Is this tour suitable for wheelchairs?

The walk will be mostly on standard pavements and should not pose any problems further to those experienced on an average high street.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

Jane ParkerMy guiding style is inclusive, open and friendly. I design and research every tour myself – in fact, the research never ends.
The walking tours I offer are all on subjects I am genuinely interested in – each highlights a different facet of my personality. I am specifically interested in the changing face of our streets over time and how those changes have affected local communities and the social history of an area.
Please see my website for more information.
