This presentation explores the unique challenges teens face when a parent is diagnosed with cancer. Adults who support these teens will gain insight into recognizing signs of emotional distress and understanding when additional professional help, such as counselling, may be necessary. Practical strategies will be shared to help adults provide compassionate support, foster open communication, and promote resilience in teens navigating this difficult journey.

About The Speakers

Tricia Feldman is a Certified Child Life Specialist with 13 years of experience supporting children through medical and family crises. She earned her degree from the University of Georgia in 2012, completing her internship at the Children’s Hospital of Georgia. Tricia’s early work included roles in pediatric intensive care and hematology/oncology, as well as supporting children of adult patients at the Cleveland Clinic.

For the past eight years, Tricia has served as a Palliative Care Child Life Specialist at Baylor Scott and White, providing specialized support to children of seriously ill or injured adults. She is also a certified child and adolescent grief counselor through the American Institute of Health Care Professionals. Tricia has presented nationally on topics related to children’s grief and trauma for the Association of Child Life Professionals and the National Alliance for Grieving Children. She lives in Dallas, Texas with her husband and two sons. (Headshot is included as an attachment to this email.)


Jennifer Willie is a Palliative Care Child Life Specialist at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Hillcrest in Waco, Texas USA. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Baylor University and completed her child life internship at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Jennifer has been a child life specialist for 17 years and joined Baylor Scott & White Health in 2009. Jennifer also serves as an adjunct lecturer in the Department of Public Health at Baylor University. She is married and has two children. Jennifer and her family enjoy traveling across Texas to visit family and friends and cheering on their favorite teams in sporting events.
