Description

Behind the Scenes Studio Visits

Meet artists based at Spike Island, explore their studios and view works-in-progress during these informal encounters. These events are free, donations welcome. Advance booking is advised.

Sarah Rhys’ work involves the reinterpretation of landscape, alchemical processes, folklore and geological material. Valda Jackson explores ideas of dislocation and identity, calling on her experience of Jamaican British heritage.

Sarah Rhys

Sarah is a multi-disciplinary visual artist who lives and works between Bristol and South Wales. She is interested in reinterpretation of landscape, alchemical process, folklore, deep time, museum curation and aesthetics. She creates installations, sculptural objects, moving image as well as print.

Valda Jackson

Valda Jackson explores a history shared by many migrants. Her concerns relate to dislocation and identity. She employs memory fragments and historical truths to recall and re-imagine the past, questioning our present, and perhaps to impact the future through the visual arts – painting and sculpture, and with her writing and performance
