Event description

Description

Have you ever wondered about the history of 'Break a Leg' and other such superstitions? Did you know there is a Georgian Folly backstage and a Roman Well hidden beneath the stage at York Theatre Royal? Join us for an exclusive 'Behind the Scenes Tour' on the evening of Monday 25th March to find out more about this wonderful Grade II listed building.

York was the largest Roman town in northern England, and the site of York Theatre Royal fell within the city walls, an original section can be seen across the road. Through the medieval period, the site was used as a hospital and for the site of a mint – a theatre was built in 1744, and has been producing and displaying work ever since.

The evening will start with registration and refreshments from 5.15pm with the tour kicking off at 5.45pm prompt. You will be led on a fascinating tour of the whole theatre site followed by a talk from Tom Bird, Executive Director of York Theatre Royal about the building's fascinating history and what's coming up in the near future. The evening will conclude with a light supper, provided by award winning local business Baba Ganoush Catering, wine and networking.
