Description

Behind the Scenes Tour of Lace Archive
12pm - 1pm
Meet at the Newstead Abbey shop

Join Judith Edgar, Curator of Lace, Costume & Textiles at Nottingham City Museums & Galleries for a behind the scenes tour of the Lace Collection at Newstead Abbey. Numbers are limited so please ensure that you book a place. Unfortunately the collection stores are only accessibile via stairs, age +14.

This can also be used as an opportunity to view Lace Unveiled, part of the wider Lace Unravelled programme, and to take a Newstead Abbey house tour*. Lace Unveiled will present work by contemporary artists inspired by lace displayed within the rooms of Newstead Abbey, the ancestral home of the Romantic Poet Lord Byron. These will be shown alongside objects from the world-class Nottingham City Museums & Galleries Lace Collection.

Works include Bragança and Mestre de Avis by Lisbon-based Joana Vasconcelos, a video commission by artist Joy Buttress and film-maker Manolis Papastavrou, new installations by Shane Waltener in the house and grounds, and the secrets we keep from ourselves by textiles artist Lucy Brown.

Part of the Lace Unravelled public prgoramme, funded by Arts Council England's Designated Development Fund.

*Newstead Abbey is open 12-4pm, with last entry at 3pm (please bear this in mind, should you wish to take a house tour). This ticket includes house entry at no additional fee.
